Even performance art is for the rich and famous

Marina Abramovic and her troupe of performance artists have taken over the MOMA for the last two months in The Artist is Present. Although Marina has challenged the public to form a connection with the artist, only celebrities like James Franco, Bjork, and a list of other VIP's have had the opportunity to sit with the artist. This doesn't seem so transcendental after all.

  1. Really? Only celebrities got to sit with her? I checked out the flickr of the photos of all the people who have sat with her, and most were non-celebrities. I went last week and i was really confused as to how they administered the sitting. I could tell who was up next, but i couldn't figure out if there was a line. Everyone was sitting around the square, facing inwards. The day i went, this woman sat from sometime before i got there until the museum closed, so i didn't get to sit. And i thought the Abramovic exhibit was supposed to always close at 8:30, but that day, they made everyone leave at normal museum closing time. Except they let one lady stay and sit with Abramovic, with no one around but some guards. And i read that an art critic was allowed in early so he could sit with her. So in that sense, i guess there is some kind of inside politics at work...

  2. Hi! Everybody was allowed to sit with her, but because the demand was so high, only the famous and the influential have actually had the opportunity to sit with her. They were also allowed to cut the line. I had heard that a museum employee had waited for an entire day and was not able to see her, but Bjork was allowed to cut in line and presumably, take up more time and the employee's opportunity to sit with the artist.
